Heritage Workshops and Lectures; Spring 2013
An Introduction to Flint Knapping
SAT 9 MARCH, 9AM-2PM; 1PM-5PM
John Lord is one of the most skilled flint knappers in England, having begun his prehistoric technology research almost four decades ago.
These unique workshops will give you the opportunity to learn this ancient skill in the prehistoric landscape of Flag Fen. A largely forgotten skill, under expert tutelage you will learn how to manipulate stone to create your own flint tools using methods from the Neolithic period. First split into rough shapes, the edges of flints were then refined to create a range of different tools, including scrapers, axes and arrowheads. The workshops will cover the range of techniques used to create these tools.
The workshop is suitable for beginners and all materials will be provided. Lunch will be provided for both the morning and afternoon sessions; please advise us of any dietary requirements when booking.
£50 per person
All workshops and lectures can be booked through Peterborough Museum on 01733 864663 or email@example.com. Booking is essential for all workshops and strongly recommended for lectures.
