Basket Weaving Workshop
Sue Kirk
Archived Event
SUN 3 FEBRUARY, 10am-4pm
Sue Kirk uses Somerset and locally grown willow to create a range of traditional baskets, and now it’s your turn!
Spend the day making a traditional frame or ribbed basket from willow. These baskets were originally made by unskilled basket makers, using materials from the hedgerow, and would have been used for gathering foods. Learn how to form a hoop, then split willow for the ‘ribs’, use a knife to ‘slype’ the rods, and secure the structure using a ‘rand’ weave. Take home a tough, light weight and longlasting basket at the end of the day – as well as the skills to make more!
The workshop is suitable for beginners and all materials will be provided. Lunch will also be provided; please advise us of any dietary requirements when booking.
£60 per person
All workshops and lectures can be booked through Peterborough Museum on 01733 864663 or museum@vivacity-peterborough.com. Booking is essential for all workshops and strongly recommended for lectures.
