Opus Sectile Mosaics

SAT 13 APRIL, 10AM – 12NOON

Unlike traditional mosaics, Opus Sectile uses big pieces that are shaped to define large portions of the design. Learn how to cut marble pieces to size and transform them into Roman-inspired artwork. Create a series of six coasters to take home. You can choose your own pattern and marble colours to make your ideal mosaic! All materials will be provided.

Classic Mosaics

SAT 13 APRIL, 1PM – 4PM

If you prefer the more traditional Roman mosaic design, join us for a longer workshop where you can learn to cut small tiles (or tesserae) to create a series of six coasters or a small picture. Lawrence will also demonstrate how to use a hammer and hardie, the same tools that would have been used by ancient craftsmen. There will be Roman examples for inspiration – or you could choose something more modern. All materials will be provided.
