Heritage Workshops and Lectures 2014
Roman Pottery Making Workshop - Cancelled
Unfortunately we have had to postpone this event for the near future. Keep an eye out for future dates or check out the other fantastic workshops we have to offer.
Make your very own Roman pot using traditional techniques!
Discover how the Romans created pottery by combining different processes to produce a single piece. You will get a chance to work as a group to complete an Amphorae and try your hand at using a hand-powered centrifugal throwing wheel. Finally you will be using moulds and coiling to make your own Mortarium the most important vessel in the Roman kitchen. Your Mortarium will then be fired offsite and brought back to the museum for collection at a later date.
Richard Gibson MA has over 20 years of experience as a practising ceramicist, sculptor and teacher of all ages and abilities. He has exhibited internationally and gained national exposure for his work during his career. He now regularly teaches workshops.
