Heritage Workshops & Lectures; Spring 2013
The Medieval Abbey of Peterborough
Brian Jones
Archived Event
WEDS 13 FEB, 7PM
By the time Longthorpe Tower was added to the Thorpe family’s manor house, around 1300AD, Peterborough Abbey was already in its third incarnation.
Now the city’s Cathedral, it would have looked relatively familiar to us today. However, the role of the Abbey in the local area, and the vast power it exerted, would have been quite different! Housing a thriving monastic community and a host of important reliquaries, the Abbey was not only an important centre locally, but on a national scale.
Light refreshments are included in the ticket price for this event and will be served prior to the lecture.
All workshops and lectures can be booked through Peterborough Museum on 01733 864663 or museum@vivacity-peterborough.com. Booking is essential for all workshops and strongly recommended for lectures.
