Longthorpe Tower
Longthorpe Tower is another of Peterborough’s Historic gems, recently voted amongst the 100 most important historic sites in the UK.
The Tower is a surviving part of a 14th century fortified Manor House, and contains the finest set of medieval wall paintings in a domestic setting anywhere in Western Europe, which give a rare insight into the medieval mind. The Tower includes the painted chamber with these stunning wall paintings and, new for 2012, a small hands-on exhibition on the story of the Tower, the wall paintings and life in a medieval manor house.
Longthorpe Tower is owned by English Heritage but is managed by Vivacity. It is open Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays from Easter until the end of October, 10am – 4pm daily (last admission 3.30pm). Pre booked groups and school parties will be able to view the Tour at other times by prior arrangement.
Watch this space in the coming weeks for more information on the new opening of Longthorpe Tower.
