Richard is a Director of his own company, Athene Communications Ltd, as well as a Director of the Greater Peterborough Partnership. He is also Treasurer of the local Wildlife Trusts and chair of Peterborough-based charity, the Association for Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus. Richard also runs a local conservation body, the Langdyke Countryside Trust.
Through his work and association with these organisations he has considerable expertise in marketing and PR, business support, governance, strategic planning, environmental and conservation issues. As a Peterborough resident, he is passionate about the future of the city and its surrounding villages, believing there is a great opportunity to develop Peterborough to benefit both individuals and organisations.
“Peterborough is that unique animal – an old new town. This creates wonderful opportunities to use culture to bring people together and create stronger, more empowered communities. A key issue for me will be how we can use the work of the Trust to drive forward a more aspirational culture in Peterborough. We need to get much better at celebrating and making the most of what we have, not bemoaning what we haven’t.
“I’m particularly keen to be on the Board to help develop creative ideas that join up all the work going on in Peterborough, packaging it better to create a real sense of momentum that generates enthusiasm and excitement about what’s already happening and what’s still to come. I am keen to help develop ideas that promote heritage and the environment, and ensure access for all. There is not enough being done in Peterborough at present to help disabled people and the elderly play their part in cultural regeneration.”
