Flag Fen is best known for it's Bronze Age and Iron Age archaeology because it tells us so much about what life was like for our prehistoric ancestors. However, the history of Flag Fen covers a much wider time period and on this page we have highlighted key events during the last 6,000 years. It's these events which make Flag Fen so special.
Less than 10% of the site has been dug. Excavations in 2002, 2005, and 2012 indicated that parts of the monument are drying out. If this happens, all the information will be lost.
Flag Fen is a site under threat, but you can help in a variety of ways.
Flag Fen is part of Vivacity Culture & Leisure, an independent not-for-profit organisation with charitable status.
There are lots of ways you can support Vivacity and the work we do to improve and promote Peterborough’s cultural heritage, from fundraising and volunteering to sponsorship or making a donation.
