Anthony Caro Engagement Commission

Anthony Caro Engagement Commission

25 June to 28 June 2017

Key Theatre, Peterborough, PE1 1EF

To celebrate the re-siting of Sir Anthony Caro’s Lagoon, owned by Vivacity Peterborough as part of Peterborough’s Sculpture Collection, Vivacity Arts are commissioning an artist to engage with young people and communities. Working with five groups over the course of four days, the artist will devise and lead creative workshops with two primary schools, a secondary school, college students and a community group to create sculptures in response to the work of Caro. The commission will cover the cost of travel, accommodation and hospitality and will include an artist fee and budget for materials.

Internationally renowned Anthony Caro is a key figure of twentieth century sculpture, his work is recognisable by his use of industrial materials such as steel I-beams and metal sheets which are welded or bolted together to create abstract assemblages. Lagoon, which was previously sited at Stuart House in the City Centre then at Thorpe Meadows, is currently undergoing restoration and due to be installed in front of the Key Theatre in April 2017.

The workshops, which will take place at the Key Theatre, will be designed to involve local pupils and communities in the cultural endeavours of Vivacity’s public art collection. The selected artist must be able to work with diverse groups of children, adults and young adults to deliver exciting, innovative and ambitious sessions.

To apply please send your artist CV, some images of your previous work and a covering letter expressing your interest in the project to by the 30th April 2017

Artist fee: £950 (£200 a day plus £150 for 2 days of preparatory work)
